Why Do Duramax Owners Reroute the PCV System? Here’s What the Kit Actually Does
Share
If you have worked on a 2004.5–2010 6.6L Duramax, you may have noticed oily residue inside the intake tract.
That does not automatically mean something is seriously wrong with the engine. Part of that oil mist can come from the factory crankcase ventilation system, which routes crankcase vapors back into the intake.
A PCV reroute kit changes where those vapors go, while a resonator delete cleans up another part of the factory intake layout.

What Does the PCV System Do on a Duramax?
The PCV, or positive crankcase ventilation system, allows pressure and vapors from inside the engine to escape instead of building up in the crankcase.
From the factory, those vapors are typically routed back into the intake system. Because crankcase vapor can contain a fine oil mist, residue may gradually collect inside intake piping over time.
What Does a PCV Reroute Change?
A reroute setup moves the crankcase vent path away from the original intake connection.
The goal is generally to reduce the amount of oil vapor being introduced into the intake tract. It does not repair worn piston rings, excessive blow-by, or other internal engine problems, so diagnosis still matters if crankcase pressure seems unusually high.

What About the Resonator Delete?
The factory intake resonator is designed to help manage intake noise. A resonator delete replaces or removes that section of the factory setup for a simpler engine-bay layout.
For many Duramax owners, the appeal is less about dramatic horsepower gains and more about simplifying the intake area and cleaning up the appearance around the engine.
Fitment for LLY, LBZ and LMM Duramax Engines
This Assosary PCV reroute and resonator delete kit is listed for compatible 2004.5–2010 6.6L Duramax diesel applications using LLY, LBZ, and LMM engines.
Before ordering, confirm your model year and engine code. The 6.6L Duramax platform changed across generations, so engine identification matters more than simply seeing “Duramax” on the vehicle.
Know What the Modification Is—and What It Isn’t
A PCV reroute is mainly about changing crankcase vapor routing, while the resonator delete simplifies part of the intake system.
Neither modification should be treated as a cure for excessive blow-by, oil consumption, or other mechanical faults. But for a healthy LLY, LBZ, or LMM Duramax, this type of kit can be a practical option for owners who want to reduce oil mist entering the intake and clean up the engine-bay layout.
